Game Recap: Green Bay Blizzard at Quad City Steamwheelers | June 6, 2026
It's the IFL. It's Week 13, and we have action tonight from Moline, IL, in a Saturday night duel between the Quad City Steamwheelers (3-7) and the Green Bay Blizzard (9-1). The Blizzard sit atop the Eastern Conference and are riding high on a 6-game win streak. Green Bay defeated the San Antonio Gunslingers last week 62-28. The Steamwheelers currently sit in the 6th position in the Eastern Conference and are coming off a loss to the Vegas Knight Hawks 61-28. The teams are taking the field, the ball is tee'd up and we're set for kickoff!
The Steamwheelers began with possession, worked into Green Bay territory and hit a critical 4th and inches situation. On a motion handoff to RB Jarrod Ware, DL Allen Henry, DL Scean Mustin, and LB Brian Horn Jr combine to take down Ware behind the line and kept the Steamwheelers off the board. The Blizzard offense came onto the field and QB Liam Thompson dissected the Quad City defense and connected on an incredible touch pass to WR Trevon Alexander for the game's first points. The Steamwheelers' second attempt on offense began near midfield, in part to a penalty on Green Bay during the point after try. QB Daquan Neal would lower the shoulder and would not be denied as he crossed into the endzone. New kicker Nolan Krinsky knocks through the deuce as time expires in the first quarter, giving the Steamwheelers a two point lead, 9-7.
To start the second quarter, the Blizzard offense went backwards and gave up a safety. K Andrew Mevis would get the two points back by converting his deuce, but the possession still belonged to the Steamwheelers. In a few plays, Ware took the handoff to the right, and cut back across the field, picking up a block by Neal and found his way into the enzone. A new commander at the helm entered for the next Blizzard drive as QB Cole Stenstrom entered. Green Bay hit a 4th and 2 near the endzone, and Stenstrom found Alexander in the back of the endzone for a heavily contested catch. The Steamwheelers dinked and dunked down the field, but on a WR Quian Williams reception, the ball was fumbled when he stretched to cross the plane, and Green Bay pounced onto the ball. Quad City would challenge the ruling, but it would be upheld and the Blizzard had possession. However, on the first play after the one minute warning, Stenstrom's pass was intercepted. Quad City capitalizes on the turnover on a Ware rushing touchdown. With just a few seconds remaining, the Blizzard would manage to setup Mevis to convert a field goal at the end of the half. Quad City led 25-19
The second half began with Krinsky hitting his second deuce for Quad City. Also re-entering the game at this point for Green Bay was QB1 Thompson. After a 10-play drive, The Blizzard offense opted to attempt a field goal on a 4th and 8 situation and Mevis would convert on his second field goal of the game. On the ensuing kickoff, Mevis drilled the right upright and the ball stayed on the field and was recovered by Green Bay WR Sylvere Campbell. The Blizzard quickly doubled up on points when Thompson pitched out to Alexander as he hit the gas and ran into the endzone, giving Green Bay the lead again. On the only Steamwheeler drive of the third quarter, Neal found Williams in the back corner of the endzone coming down with an almost impossible catch in double coverage. The Blizzard worked into Steamwheelers territory as the third quarter concluded. The Blizzard trailed 34-29.
The Blizzard would resume action in the 4th quarter and would come up short on a 4th down conversion. Quad City would be unable to finish the drive with points as Krinsky missed the field goal. On a 3rd and gotta have it deep in their own territory with about four minutes left in the game, Thompson heaved it up for a 50/50 shot into the endzone that WR Draysean Hudson and a defender fought through and was ruled a touchdown. After a Quad City challenge, the call on the field was upheld. Green Bay then went with a little trickery on the two point try with a double reverse that saw Hudson toss it to Thompson for a successful conversion. Green Bay recaptured the lead 37-34. Quad City jockeyed the clock and scored on a Ware rushing touchdown. Taking the lead with only 20 seconds left. Krinsky hit his third deuce of the contest. Green Bay had two timeouts and trailed by 6. It came down to one final heave as time expired, and Thompson's pass was intercepted by DB Malik Duncan. However, Green Bay challenged looking for a penalty on the defense, and they were correct, giving Green Bay one final untimed down. The true last heave went out the back of the endzone and fell into a fan's lap. Quad City walked out with the win 37-34.
With the win, Quad City improved to 4-7, keeping their playoff hopes alive. They hit the road next week to take on the Iowa Barnstormers. The Blizzard winning streak was snapped as they fell to 9-2, with both losses on the road at Quad City. The Blizzard also drop into the second seed as Jacksonville defeated San Antonio earlier in the evening. The good news, Green Bay welcomes the Jacksonville Sharks to Freeze Field on Friday for Backyard Night on June 12. Kickoff is at 7:00 PM CDT.
