Game Recap vs Iowa Barnstormers | April 4, 2026
Week 4 of the IFL on Saturday night features the first meeting of the season for two rivals. The Green Bay Blizzard visit the Iowa Barnstormers for a 7 PM game at the Casey's Center. The visiting Blizzard started with the ball, clicking early and often.
Green Bay quickly made its way downfield, capping the opening drive with a two-yard rushing touchdown from Demilon Brown. After a Mevis extra point, the Blizzard took the first lead of the game, 7-0. But the Green Bay kicker wanted more; he connected on a two-point Deuce, extending the lead to nine. Iowa's first drive stalls out, and they turn the ball over on downs. Liam Thompson and the Blizzard offense came back to the field, albeit only for a few moments, as the GB QB found Draysean Hudson in the endzone for a 40-yard touchdown. The Barnstormers end their next possession with an interception by Blizz DB Reggie Bracy II. Once again, the team marched down the field. Trevon Alexander finishes things off with a reception into the endzone, adding to the score. Quarter 1 ends with a Blizzard lead, 23-0.
After the quarter break, the two teams trade scoreless drives. When Iowa gets the ball back, they find success with a pass to Donald McKinney that puts them within one yard of the endzone. Soon after, Kurtis Ravenel catches the touchdown throw. Iowa kicker Reed makes good on the extra point, and the Green Bay lead is cut to 23-7. With less than three minutes left in the half, the Barnstormers squib the kickoff out of bounds. Blizz take over at the 20 and take their time moving down the field until Liam Thompson rushes for a touchdown, re-extending the Blizzard lead, 30-7. On the ensuing kickoff, Iowa returns the ball to their 15-yard line, setting up the drive with 23 seconds before halftime; however, they only take 21 seconds to connect on a touchdown. Roubidoux finds Demonte Martin for paydirt. The Barnstormers opt for a two-point conversion that ends up batted down by Blizzard DL Scean Mustin. And so ends the half, 30-13.
It is the Barnstormers starting the second half with the football. The team slowly made its way down the field. Miraculously, Roubidoux connects with the helmet of one receiver, sending the ball into the air, allowing another Barnstormer receiver to complete the reception and score a touchdown. Iowa tries for the two-point conversion once again but is unable to convert. So, the score moves to 30-19, still favoring the Blizzard, however, Green Bay's next drive would stall out, leaving the door open for the Barnstormers to cut further into the lead. Iowa takes over and benefits from costly Green Bay penalties, extending the drive. The third quarter ended with the ball in Iowa's hands. The score remained at 30-19.
The penalties persist in the final frame. This time, a Barnstormer false start sets up a fourth-and-long situation, which they were unable to pick up. The Blizzard takes over at their own ten-yard line. A pair of receptions by Isaac Ross and a strong run from Liam Thompson set up Kairee Robinson for his first touchdown reception. Mevis tacks on the extra point, pushing the lead to 37-19. As always in the IFL, no lead is safe. The Barnstormers push the ball downfield on their next drive, and Roubidoux quickly completes his fourth passing touchdown of the night. Their two-point try fails once more, so the score sits at 37-25 with just under three minutes left. Iowa, needing the ball back, attempts the onside kick. The ball lands in the sure hands of Sylvere Campbell, and, two plays later, he takes the jet sweep into the endzone, backflipping in celebration as the Green Bay lead increases to 44-25. Yet the game was not over. Another Roubidoux passing touchdown cuts the lead to 44-31, but the failed two-point conversion and failed onside kick attempt led to a Trevon Alexander rushing touchdown. Green Bay tries for the dropkick extra point, but it is no good. With 37 seconds left, the score is 50-31. The rival teams seemed content to trade late-game scores in rapid succession. Roubidoux does his part, passing for his sixth touchdown, then rushing for the two-point conversion. The Blizzard lead is cut to 11 points (50-39) with 20 seconds remaining. Green Bay recovers the kick and burns the remaining time, winning the game.
The Green Bay Blizzard moved to 3-0. It is the first time the franchise has started the season 3-0! Next week, the Green Bay Blizzard face another rival, the Quad City Steamwheelers. The game is set for 7 PM on April 11 in Quad City. For the Iowa Barnstormers, they fall to 0-2, and begin a stretch of road games starting with the Fishers Freight () on April 11 at 6 PM (CST).
