Game Preview: Green Bay Blizzard at Orlando Pirates | July 5, 2026
The Blizzard (11-2) add yet another big win to their record to make them undefeated at home this regular season. Though this is a great accomplishment, the Blizzard are not done yet, as a win this weekend secures one home playoff game. On July 5, they travel down to Orlando to take on the Pirates (8-5), who are 3rd in the Eastern Conference and are still fighting to lock in their spot in the 2026 IFL Playoffs.
As the Blizzard continue to roll hot, they keep discovering playmakers on their team. At first it seemed like Green Bay was to be a pass-heavy team. However, in recent weeks they have been running the ball more often and more efficiently. Kairee Robinson earned yet another IFL Offensive Player of the Week after his 100-plus yard, 5-touchdown performance. Not only has Robinson been running the ball spectacularly, but star quarterback and MVP contender Liam Thompson has 18 rushing touchdowns this year, along with 42 passing touchdowns, giving him 60 total touchdowns on the year, which leads all players in the league.
Along with an unstoppable offense, this defensive front, along with returning linebacker Andre White Jr., has been wreaking havoc. Andre White's effective blitzing ability has forced many turnovers for this defense. Jonathan Ross is looking to take back the 1st place spot for tackles for loss as he moves back to 2nd after facing the Fishers Freight. Allen Henry has also been turning heads as he has racked up 5 sacks this year, placing him 3rd among the league.
The Pirates will not be an easy opponent. They have a great quarterback in Paxton DeLaurent. He currently ranks in the top 5 in yards per game, passing attempts, completions, yards, and touchdowns. In addition, three Pirates' receivers are top 11 in receiving yards. There is no doubt what their game plan will be this week. Not only do the Pirates have a great passing game, but they also are fighting extra hard these couple games, as they want to punch their ticket to get to the playoffs. Orlando hosts this matchup, and the Pirates have an opportunity to remain undefeated at home. After a 250th celebration on the Fourth of July, IFL fans can watch these two Eastern Conference contenders light fireworks of their own on July 5th at 6:30 PM (CST) on Yahoo Sports!
