Game Preview: Military Appreciation Night vs Fishers Freight - June 27, 2026
The Green Bay Blizzard are back from a bye week for Week 16 in the IFL. This week, the Blizzard host the Fishers Freight for the third and final matchup of the regular season. Green Bay leads the season series 2-0, but it is the Fishers Freight with momentum coming in. They have a two-game win streak after impressive performances against the Arizona Rattlers and Iowa Barnstormers. Meanwhile, the Green Bay Blizzard won its previous game against the Jacksonville Sharks before taking a bye week. These teams will be put to the test on June 27, Military Appreciation Night at the Resch Center. The game is scheduled for 4 PM.
Saturday's contest may be won in the trenches. The Fishers Freight have been known to lean on their run game. That was the case in their win last week against the Barnstormers. As a team, they had six rushing touchdowns, yet maintained a balanced offensive approach (74 rushing yards and 71 passing yards). QB Felix Harper only attempted nine passes, completing five of them. The team has the most rushing yards (1,733) and rushing touchdowns (52) in the IFL by a wide margin. The next closest team is nearly 700 yards short. Lately, the offense has been aided by great all-around defensive play. As a unit, the Freight five and a half tackles for loss, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, two pass breakups, and two blocked kicks on June 20. Fishers is catching fire at the right time. With just a few games remaining in the regular season, they are fighting for a playoff spot. The team ranks fifth in the Eastern Conference, and a win over the conference-leading Green Bay Blizzard could be the next step on the path to return to playoff contention.
To handle the incoming momentum, Green Bay can lean on some key contributors and their home fans. Since it is Military Appreciation Night, military members (past and present) can receive a free ticket by bringing a valid Military ID to the Resch Center Box Office, which could mean plenty of rowdy fans aiding the Blizzard defense. The fans will not be alone, though. Defensive lineman Jonathan Ross is third in the IFL in tackles for loss (13); Ja'Quon Griffin is tied-first for most fumble recoveries (3), including a timely recovery that helped secure the win against the Fishers Freight during their last battle on May 2. With a run-heavy opponent coming into Green Bay, the defensive line will need to put together another great game. Opposite them, the team can score in bunches. Trevon Alexander had his third three-touchdown game in four weeks on June 12. In that same game, QB Liam Thompson threw for 142 yards and 3 touchdowns alongside 28 rushing yards and 2 rushing touchdowns. He leads IFL quarterbacks in combined passing and rushing touchdowns this season (57). Finally, Andrew Mevis added 12 points via extra points, a field goal, and Deuces. The kicker also knocked one kickoff off the bar, allowing DB Marcus Hillman to recover and give the Blizzard an extra possession.
Kickoff is set for 4 PM on June 27 at the Resch Center in Green Bay! Fans are invited to attend the Block Party from 2 PM to 3 PM in front of the Resch before heading inside for a Military Appreciation giveaway. The game is packed with patriotic fun, vehicles, games, inflatables, jerseys, giveaways, new merch, a drone show, and, of course, Green Bay Blizzard football. Get your tickets here!
