Game Recap: Green Bay Blizzard vs Jacksonville Sharks | June 12, 2026
Week 14 in the IFL welcomes two Eastern Conference titans squaring off on Friday night football. The Jacksonville Sharks (9-1), currently the #1 seed, hit the road for a date with the Green Bay Blizzard (9-2), holders of the #2 seed in the East. Tonight's theme was Backyard Night, I will sprinkle in some salt and pepper to the meat and potatoes as necessary. Time to fire up the grill as we unpack the action.
The first Sharks drive dried out on a 4th down when Blizzard DB Marcus Hillman tackled the pass catcher short of the line to gain. The Blizzard quickly put up points of their own on a pass from QB Liam Thompson to WR Trevon Alexander. A penalty on the point after would back up the kicking unit and would result in a no good attempt. However, K Andrew Mevis would redeem the lost point by splitting the uprights for a deuce. The Sharks would respond with a pass from QB James Cahoon to WR Billy Bowens. Green Bay was driving to end the first quarter, as they were ahead 8-7.
We pick up with the Blizzard at the start of the second frame. Green Bay followed up the Jacksonville score with a slip-n-slide drive coasting down the field effortlessly and Thompson strolled into the endzone. Mevis with pinpoint precision on the kickoff would hit a ringer as he drilled the left post. Green Bay's Hillman fell on the loose ball and in a few plays, Alexander took a jet sweep into the endzone. Mevis yet again hammered in a deuce — he was simply electric in the first half. The following Jacksonville possession was all smoke as they came within a few yards of a touchdown, but ultimately settled for a field goal on fourth down. The following Blizzard sequence would highlight Thompson's grill master maestro skills as he hooked up on a deep pass to Alexander. Thompson took a QB keeper across pay dirt for six points two plays later. On the point after try, Mevis would be run into. He did come out for the kickoff, but the ball only trickled a few yards and the Sharks scooped and scored on the play. After all the penalties and a terrible Sharks kickoff, the Blizzard started in excellent field position. Thompson would find his man, Alexander again for the score as the clock hit the 1 minute warning. The Sharks kept fighting and Cahoon found Bowens for six again. With a few seconds and all timeouts, Green Bay hotdog rolled their way to midfield and set up Mevis for an opportunity to add last second points. After a highly questionable no-good call on the field goal, Coach Roberson emphatically challenged the play and the refs very quickly called the field goal good. The half concluded with Green Bay smoldering hot offensively and led 41-23.
The Blizzard came out slowly in the second half as they settled for a long field goal and failed to convert. Jacksonville was gassed up and quickly scored on a pass from Cahoon to WR Redd Douglas The Sharks came out with a line drive bullet kickoff that they recovered at their own 1-yard line. The Sharks took advantage and drove the full field and capped the drive off on a QB Sammy Edwards scramble. The Blizzard was shrinking as it was now 41-37. Still favoring Green Bay. The Blizzard offense returned to form on their following drive as Thompson honed his lawn-dart precision to find WR Jack Studer for the score. The third quarter concluded with the Blizz still in front 48-37.
The final frame began with Jacksonville down to the Blizzard 10-yard line setting up a field goal attempt. Kicker Ben Derby would miss the short kick, failing to add points. The next Blizzard possession was like those perfect grill marks on your steak as they consumed nearly six minutes of clock and in the end, RB Kairee Robinson dashed his way across the plane. The following Sharks drive went belly-up as Cahoon was intercepted by Hillman, making another momentous play for the Blizzard. While the next Blizzard drive resulted in no points, they did drain nearly another six minutes from the remaining pool of time. The Sharks did rumble into the endzone on another Edwards rush, and they would successfully convert the two point play. The Blizzard led 54-45, and that score would hold up as the Sharks onside kick efforts were unsuccessful.
Jacksonville falls to 9-2 and travels to take on their in-state rivals, Orlando Pirates. Green Bay finds the win column, and takes command back of the top spot in the East as they improve to 10-2. The Blizzard will rest up next week during their bye. Green Bay will be back in action for their final regular season home game on Saturday, June 27th for Military Night when they host the Fishers Freight. Kickoff for that game is set for 4:00 PM CDT.
