Game Preview: Blizzard at Freight - May 2, 2026
Week 8 of the IFL is here, and the Green Bay Blizzard (5-1) travel to the Fishers Event Center to take on the Freight (5-1). Both teams are coming off wins last week and are looking to take the number one spot in the east. Last time the two met, the Blizzard took care of 'blizzness' as they won 51-42. The Freight would go on to win four straight games and will be looking to get revenge this time around. Two teams are competing for the Eastern Conference throne; this is going to be a good one.
If Fishers wants to get revenge from the last matchup, there are some adjustments they will need to make from last time. One of them being Green Bay's leader at the helm, quarterback Liam Thompson. Thompson won yet another IFL Offensive Player of the Week after his 7-touchdown performance vs. the Pirates. He has moved up to second in the IFL in passing touchdowns (21) along with ranking top five in rushing yards (201) and touchdowns (8). Following Thompson's great performance this year, many of his offensive weapons have been making an impact as well. All receivers have been performing well this year, but last week Issac Ross had an excellent game. Corralling four catches, 53 yards, and a touchdown and putting the icing on the cake with 73 return yards and a return touchdown. Shifting to the defensive side of the ball, Green Bay's defensive line has been excellent, with Jonathan Ross still the league leader in tackles for loss with eight and a half. And, linebacker Brian Lee Jr. has been making his presence known. Last week Lee racked up ten total tackles along with a tackle for loss and a sack. The defensive line is scary enough; add a blitzing linebacker to the mix, and it causes even more problems for opposing offenses.
The Freight have some impact players as well that the Blizzard should keep an eye on. One of them being their mobile quarterback Felix Harper. Harper has been solid in the passing game, but his impact has been more in the rushing department. He currently leads the league in rushing attempts (72), rushing yards (299), and yards per game (49.8). Keeping him contained should be a heavy priority for the Blizzard defense. Another rusher for this team is their running back Dominic Roberto. Roberto currently ranks third in the IFL in rushing yards with 229 and in the top five in rushing touchdowns with seven. There is no secret to this offense's game plan; they can run the ball, and they can run it well. Shifting to the defensive side of the ball, defensive back Marcus Gray has been flying around this season. He currently leads the league in solo tackles with 27 and is top three in the league in both assisted and total tackles. Gray even has a sack and interception on the season as well. Making him an impact player that can hit you from all directions.
The Blizzard are on the road this week to take on the Freight for the second time this season. Both teams are at the top of the Eastern Conference and are both looking to snag the one spot.
