Green Bay Drops Back-to-Back Games

Chicago, IL-The Green Bay Blizzard (0-2) fell to the Chicago Slaughter (1-2) Saturday night at the Sears Centre Arena 50-41.

The Blizzard committed four turnovers and allowed the Slaughter to rush for six touchdowns in the loss.

The Slaughter jumped out to a quick start as QB Cody Kirby carried for a six-yard touchdown run. He then added another touchdown run. Kirby was able to add a ten-yard pass to QB Juice Williams to push the score to 14-3 before the Blizzard could score a touchdown. The Blizzard and the Slaughter would then exchange rushing touchdowns to end the first quarter. Chicago outscored the Blizzard 21-10 in the first.

The Blizzard got on the board first with a Jordan Wettstein 39 yard field goal. However, the Slaughter finished the scoring in the quarter as Blizzard WB Donovan Porterie completed intentional grounding in the endzone for a safety. Then Slaughter QB Cody Kirby added a 17 yard touchdown run to extend the Slaughter's lead to 16 at the half. Green Bay trailed Chicago 29-13 at the half.

Green Bay responded quickly in the third quarter as RB Joshua Murray broke several tackles in route to 17 yard touchdown. The fourth quarter began as Slaughter QB Cody Kirby rushed for his third touchdown of the night on a one yard run. The Blizzard were then able to add three touchdowns at the end of the game with touchdown passes to Aaron Kapeliela-Higdon and Charles Dowdell and a Porterie run.

Porterie completed 17 of 28 passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns however it was his three interceptions that ultimately sealed the Blizzard's fate. The Blizzard trailed the Slaughter by eight with 50 seconds remaining however LB Ron Mago intercepted the pass and ended the Blizzard's hopes for a comeback. The Blizzard offense again struggled to get the ground game going after averaging 104.4 yards per game last season yards. They ended the night with 71. However the Slaughter were able to rush for 102.

RB Joshua Murray led the Blizzard with 46 rushing yards and one touchdown. Aaron Kapeliela- Higdon led all Blizzard receivers with 70 yards and one touchdown.

Cody Kirby led the Slaughter completing 13 of 19 passes for 132 yards, one touchdown and one interception. RB Daniel DuFrene led Chicago with 11 rushes for 59 yards and three touchdowns. Eyad Salem led all Slaughter reciviers with 60 yards on four catches.

The Blizzard have now lost back -to-back games and have never won in Chicago.

Green Bay will travel to Colorado to play the Colorado Ice on Sunday March 17th. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:05 MT.
